It's FREE! Coho is licensed under the Mozilla Public License. This means that this product is freely distributable and changeable as "open source" What's in a Name? We're often asked what "Coho" stands for. It's actually not an acronym; it's a beautiful species of salmon known elsewhere as Silver Salmon, but called Coho in the Pacific Northwest. NewsSeptember 2007The Coho II Helpdesk Project is on hold until we are able to obtain sufficient funding to begin planning and development. We regret that we are unable to provide an ETA as to when the planning and development phases may begin. December 2006The Coho II project is now underway with the goal of expanding the Coho Helpdesk Project into a "Community Source" initiative involving various units in the higher education, government and private sectors. This approach is envisioned to be modeled after Indiana University’s (IU) success with their $20 million, managed, shared investment in Open Source projects; chiefly the Sakai Project. The OSU Coho team met with Brad Wheeler, IU's Chief Information Officer, at GOSCON '06 where he delivered the closing keynote on their collaborative development model. November 2006We are excited to announce completion of the first phase of the Northwest Academic Computing Consortium (NWACC) Coho Helpdesk software application project. This work was completed by a consortium of Information Services units at Oregon State University, including Technology Support Services, the Open Source Lab and Central Web Services. Earlier this year NWACC funded a grant for work on the Coho Help Desk package. The goal of this project was to facilitate the installation and use of the Coho I Help Desk package, developed at Oregon State University, at NWACC member institutions. The first phase of the project is complete, and focused on the development of installation scripts, documentation, and other aids for the use of the current release, “Coho I.” February 2006The Coho helpdesk project is in the process of becoming a Community Source project, with partners including state government, private industry, and higher education. This will include a major rewrite of the system, resulting in a 2nd generation version of Coho. In the meantime, we are going to continue to use and support the first generation version of Coho. More information will be forthcoming in the near future as we work out the many details necessary to undertake such a large scale collaborative project. login to post comments
